There's something quietly stunning about the parable Jesus tells in Luke 14. A great banquet has been prepared. The host has gone to considerable trouble. The food is on the table, the seats are open, and the invitation has already gone out. But when the moment comes, the excuses start rolling in. A field to inspect. Oxen to examine. A wedding to attend. All reasonable things. None of them actually the problem.
The problem is that the guests didn't believe the feast was worth rearranging their lives for. And that's the part that hits close to home.
Jesus isn't telling this parable to shame anyone. He's revealing something about the nature of God's invitation itself. The host in this story doesn't cancel the dinner when the first wave of guests declines. He sends his servant out again, into the streets and alleys, to bring in anyone who will come. The kingdom of God, Jesus is saying, is like that. Wide open. Already prepared. Still being offered.
You might find yourself in a season where coming to God feels like one more thing on an already overwhelming list. The busyness is real. The distractions are legitimate. But the invitation in this verse is a gentle and persistent one: everything is now ready. Not someday. Now.
God isn't waiting for you to be less busy or more put-together before the table is worth coming to. The feast is already prepared. You're the one being called in from wherever you are.

Lord, thank you for the invitation that stays open no matter how many times we've made excuses. We don't want to miss what you've prepared for us. Help us quiet the noise long enough to pull up a chair and receive what you've already made ready. We come today, just as we are. Amen.
