The Door You Keep Walking Past

Revelation 3:20

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.

There's something striking about this image when you sit with it long enough. Jesus is not forcing his way in. He's not prying the door open or slipping through a window. He's standing outside, knocking, waiting for someone to actually open up.

This verse comes from a letter to the church in Laodicea, a congregation Jesus describes as lukewarm. Not hostile. Not heretical. Just... distracted. Going through the motions. Comfortable enough with religion that they'd stopped noticing what was missing. And what was missing was him. The living presence of Christ had somehow ended up on the other side of the door, and life inside had gotten so routine that nobody noticed the knocking.

๐Ÿ™ A Prayer for Today

Lord, forgive me for the times I've walked right past you without realizing it. I don't want a faith that keeps you at arm's length. Open my ears to hear your knock today, in the quiet moments and the busy ones. Come in. Sit with me. I want to live with you close, not just believe in you from a distance. Amen.
