This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. — Psalm 118:24
There's a version of life we can slip into where today is just a bridge to somewhere better. We endure Monday to get to Friday. We push through this season to get to the next one. And before long, we've spent a whole string of ordinary days treating them like inconveniences.
Psalm 118 is actually a song of victory and deliverance. The people singing it had come through something hard, and their response wasn't to skip past the moment. It was to stop and name what this day actually was: something the Lord had made. That word "made" carries real weight. It's the same kind of language used in creation. God didn't just allow this day to happen. He crafted it, set it in motion, and handed it to you.
That changes things, doesn't it? The Monday morning with the full inbox and the long to-do list is still a day God made. The unremarkable Tuesday where nothing big happens is still a day He designed with intention. The call isn't to rejoice in every circumstance, but to rejoice in the day itself, the sheer fact that you're in it and God is in it with you.
This verse is an invitation to presence. Not forced positivity, not pretending hard things aren't hard. Just a willingness to look at what's right in front of you and recognize that God is already here, already working, already present in the details you might be rushing past.
You don't have to arrive somewhere else for this day to matter. It already does.

Lord, thank You for this specific day. Forgive me for the times I've treated ordinary moments like obstacles instead of gifts. Help me to slow down enough to notice where You already are, in the small things, the quiet hours, and the unremarkable moments that are actually full of Your presence. I want to be here for the day You've made, not just waiting for a better one to come along. Amen.
