There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. โ Exodus 3:2
Moses was just doing his job, leading sheep through the wilderness, when he stumbled across something that defied logic. A bush was burning but not burning up. The flames danced and flickered, yet the branches remained green and whole. It wasn't just unusual, it was impossible.
This wasn't some natural phenomenon Moses could explain away. In the ancient world, fire meant destruction and consumption. You'd expect the bush to turn to ash within minutes. Instead, it kept burning with no fuel being depleted, no leaves turning to cinder. This violation of natural law was God's way of saying, "Pay attention. Something different is happening here."
The burning bush reveals something profound about how God works in our lives. He often shows up in the middle of what seems destructive but proves to be sustaining. The very thing that looks like it should destroy us becomes the place where we encounter His presence most clearly.
You might be in your own burning bush moment right now. The pressure at work that should have broken you months ago but somehow you're still standing. The relationship conflict that should have destroyed your family but has actually drawn you closer. The financial strain that should have crushed your faith but has taught you to depend on God like never before.
God specializes in fires that burn but don't consume. He transforms what looks like destruction into revelation, what feels like an ending into a holy beginning. When life feels like it's on fire, look closer. He might be preparing to speak.
๐ A Prayer for Today
Lord, help us recognize Your presence in the impossible moments. When life feels like it's burning around us, give us eyes to see that You are there, sustaining us in ways we don't understand. Teach us to approach the burning bushes in our lives with reverence and expectation. Amen.
