Dancing in the Kitchen

Psalms 149:3

Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with timbrel and harp. โ€” Psalms 149:3

My daughter came home from school yesterday with the biggest grin I'd seen all week. She'd aced a test she'd been worried about for days. Without thinking twice, we both started dancing right there in the kitchen while dinner was cooking. The pasta nearly boiled over, but we didn't care. We were celebrating!

It hit me later how natural that response was. Good news just makes you want to move, doesn't it? Yet somehow when it comes to God's goodness, we've convinced ourselves that worship should always be quiet and still.

David didn't get that memo. This guy danced so enthusiastically when the ark came home that his wife was embarrassed. But David knew something we sometimes forget: when you're overwhelmed by God's faithfulness, your whole body wants to respond.

Maybe it's not literal dancing for you. Maybe it's singing off-key in your car, doing a little fist pump when you see a beautiful sunset, or even just letting yourself smile really big during worship. The point isn't the specific movement, it's the overflow of joy that can't be contained.

God isn't looking for perfect choreography. He's looking for hearts so full of gratitude that they spill over into our physical world. Your joy matters to Him. Your celebration brings Him pleasure. So next time something reminds you of His goodness, don't hold back. Let your whole self praise Him.

๐Ÿ™ A Prayer for Today

Lord, thank You for giving us bodies that can express the joy our hearts feel. Help us worship You with unashamed celebration, knowing that our genuine happiness brings You delight. Amen.
