When the Light Comes Back

Psalm 30:5

For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning. โ€” Psalm 30:5

I've been thinking about how different Monday mornings can feel. Some Mondays arrive like gentle friends, full of possibility. Others feel heavy, carrying the weight of unfinished conversations or disappointments from the weekend.

Last Monday, my neighbor shared how she'd been crying most of Sunday night. Her teenage daughter had said some pretty hurtful things during an argument, and the words just kept replaying in her mind. But then Monday morning came, and with it, an unexpected text from her daughter: "Mom, I'm sorry. Can we talk after school?"

That's the thing about night seasons in our lives. Whether it's actual nighttime or those metaphorical dark periods we all go through, they feel so permanent when we're in them. The hurt seems endless. The silence feels eternal. We wonder if things will ever feel normal again.

But God's design includes morning. Not just the literal sunrise that breaks through our bedroom windows, but those breakthrough moments when hope returns, when healing begins, when relationships start to mend.

I love that this psalm doesn't promise we won't have nights of weeping. It acknowledges them as real and valid. But it also reminds us that God's character leans toward restoration, toward favor, toward joy. The night doesn't get the final word.

Whatever your Monday morning is carrying, remember this: you're never stuck in the darkness forever. Morning has a way of coming, sometimes when we least expect it.

๐Ÿ™ A Prayer for Today

Lord, thank you that you don't leave us in our dark nights forever. When we can't see past our current pain, remind us that you're already preparing our morning. Give us patience to wait and eyes to recognize your light when it comes. Amen.
