In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps. โ Proverbs 16:9
I had everything mapped out perfectly. The interview was at 2 PM, I'd calculated the drive time, even factored in a coffee stop. But my GPS decided to take me on a scenic route through construction zones and closed streets. By the time I arrived, flustered and fifteen minutes late, I was convinced I'd blown my chance.
Turns out, the interviewer was running behind too. We ended up having the most relaxed conversation, and I got the job. Sometimes what feels like everything going wrong is actually everything falling into place.
This verse reminds me that our planning matters, but God's guidance matters more. We're not supposed to just drift through life without direction, but we also can't control every variable. There's wisdom in preparation and surrender working together.
I've learned to hold my plans with open hands. Make the spreadsheet, set the alarm, do your homework, but don't panic when Monday morning throws you a curveball. God sees the whole route while we're just trying to navigate the next turn.
Maybe your carefully laid plans got derailed this morning. Maybe you're wondering if you should have taken that other path. Here's what I know: God doesn't waste our detours. He uses them to teach us, redirect us, or simply show us we're not in this alone. Your steps matter to Him, even when they don't make sense to you.
๐ A Prayer for Today
Lord, thank You that You're guiding my steps even when I can't see where I'm going. Help me plan wisely but trust deeply, knowing that You see what I cannot. Give me peace in the detours and confidence that You're working all things together for good. Amen.
