Stop Making Excuses and Start Obeying

1 Samuel 15:22

But Samuel replied: 'Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.' โ€” 1 Samuel 15:22

King Saul thought he could impress God with religious activity while blatantly disobeying His clear commands. When confronted by Samuel, Saul made excuse after excuse, blaming the people and claiming his disobedience was actually worship. God wasn't buying it, and neither should we when we catch ourselves doing the same thing.

How often do we substitute religious busy work for simple obedience? We'll volunteer for every church committee, attend every Bible study, and post inspiring verses on social media, all while ignoring that relationship we need to repair, that sin we refuse to confess, or that step of faith God has been calling us to take for months.

God doesn't want our impressive performances when our hearts are rebellious. He doesn't need our elaborate spiritual activities when we're avoiding His straightforward instructions. The Lord desires obedience over sacrifice because obedience reveals the true condition of our hearts. It shows whether we truly trust Him or just want to look spiritual.

Stop hiding behind religious activity. Stop making excuses for the areas where you're choosing your way over God's way. He sees right through the spiritual smoke screen. What specific command have you been avoiding? What excuse have you been making? Today is the day to drop the religious pretense and simply obey.

๐Ÿ™ A Prayer for Today

Father, forgive me for the times I've tried to impress You with religious activity while avoiding simple obedience. Show me where I'm making excuses instead of following Your clear direction. Give me the courage to obey You completely, even when it's uncomfortable. Help me value Your approval over human applause. In Jesus' name, Amen.
